Scissor lift in a car service – what work mechanics will do faster and more easily?

First of all, the scissor lift allows mechanics to conveniently access the wheels. Your client can also work on the suspension or brake system on it, eliminating the need to work in uncomfortable positions.

Thanks to its design, it takes up less space than, for example, a two-column lift, and the stable platform provides secure support for the car.

But is it definitely a good choice for car service? And what kind of work will it be best for?

What jobs will your client do faster and safer with a scissor lift?

Choosing the right lift will significantly speed up many jobs, eliminating the need to use a jack or carry heavy tools. Where will it work best?

Car service or tyre service 

During the season (which is coming soon!), every minute matters. A scissor lift speeds up the whole process – instead of manually lifting the car with a jack, all it takes is one movement and the vehicle is ready to go.

Thanks to even lifting, it is not necessary to lift each side separately. The car is at the ideal height, which makes it easier to access the wheels and faster to work on them.

In addition, it takes up less space than single-column lifts, let alone four-column lifts, so it will fit even in smaller car service.

Detailing 

Application of protective coatings need full access to hard-to-reach areas. A scissor lift lifts the car to the right height, eliminating uncomfortable working positions.

Application of wax or anti-corrosion coatings, goes more smoothly, because you have convenient access to various parts of the car (including the chassis).

Car body and paint repairs

The scissor lift makes it easy to access, wheel arches and lower car body areas, which is crucial when removing dents or replacing body panels. The stable support of the vehicle prevents movement, making it easier to precisely fit new parts.

The ability to adjust the height of the lift will improve your client working comfort and, consequently, the quality of the finish.

Scissor lift – is it a good purchase for car service?

Although we believe that a scissor lift is a good choice for most car service, it is not without its downsides. Below is a summary of the most important advantages and disadvantages of these devices: 

Advantages of a scissor lift:

  • Quick lifting of the vehicle – most models lift the car up to 35 seconds, which speeds up the work.
  • Easier tyre replacement – no need to manually adjust the arms, as in some two-column lifts.
  • Optimum working height – adjustable to adjust the right height (among our lifts we have those that lift to 185 cm).
  • Compact design –  it does not requires a large space and can be installed even in smaller car service.
  • Mobility – the ability to move the lift and work in different areas of the car service.


Potential disadvantages:

  • Limited lifting height – in some models it is 62 cm, which can hinder work that requires full access to the chassis.
  • The need for a stable surface – stationary lifts require a perfectly level surface to ensure maximum work safety.
  • Limited access to the central part of the vehicle – on some models, the design of the lift may make it difficult to access the center tunnel or exhaust system.

A scissor lift is a solution that will work best in tyre service, car repair garage and detailing services, where fast raising of the car and convenient access to the wheels are important. If your client mainly deal with engine and wheel replacement in his car service, a two-column lift may be a better choice.

Is a scissor lift useful in any car and tyre service?

If your client  wants to speed up the service of vehicles and work more conveniently – recommend a scissor lift to them a scissor lift.

It will take your client tens of seconds to lift your vehicle, and the stable design will ensure safety while working. You will have easy access to the wheels without the need for a jack. Mobile versions (in our case L-520 and L-550) additionally allow you to better manage the space.

Keep in mind, that a scissor lift is worth choosing as “another lift” – if it’s your first one, in our opinion, it’s better to bet on a two post lift.
