Not sure how to install a two-post lift in your car service? Here are a few practical tips to help you get everything ready. A well-prepared workspace means safe and efficient operation.

In this article, we’ll guide you through what to check and prepare before installing your lift:

  • floor and foundation
  • electrical installation
  • free space around the lift
  • whether to install it yourself or hire a professional

1. Installation requirements for a two-post lift

See what requirements the floor should meet for installing a two-post lift in a car service.
The following guidelines apply to a lift with a capacity of 4 tons:

  • foundation area: 1.5 m x 4 m x 30 cm
  • surface as flat and level as possible
  • minimum floor thickness: 30 cm
  • concrete grade: at least B25 or B30
  • workspace area: at least 4.2 m x 6 m for maneuvering
  • no reinforcement within the top 30 cm of the floor slab

Very important – the floor should be a single, uniform concrete slab. The minimum required thickness is 30 cm.
An exception applies to two-post lifts with a base frame, where the floor thickness can be at least 20 cm.

2. Electrical installation in the car service

It is very important to provide the lift with the correct power supply.
Remember that the electrical installation in the car service must meet the requirements of the device.
Also, make sure that the installation is carried out by a qualified electrician with the appropriate certifications.

3. How much space around the lift?

Remember to leave enough space around the lift. What does that mean?
There should be enough room to maneuver cars without any problems.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • distance from walls: no less than 80 cm
  • distance from the ceiling: no less than 4 m
  • distance from the entrance: enough space to maneuver a car comfortably

4. Professional installation – is it worth it?

While installing a two-post lift may look simple, it involves precision and technical knowledge. Proper alignment, anchoring, and safety adjustments are crucial.

That’s why we recommend hiring experienced installers who know how to set up the equipment correctly and safely.
