Gearbox Jack – Read Before You Buy

2 July 2026 by Tomasz Szymański

Before you buy a gearbox jack for your workshop, ask yourself one question:

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

And contrary to appearances, this isn’t a stupid question at all.

Plus, the answer isn’t obvious.

Because when most people look for this kind of equipment, they type phrases like this into Google or any other search engine:

  • Where to buy a gearbox jack at a good price?
  • Gearbox jack prices – where to find the best deals?

The thing is – that’s the wrong approach!

And while we seriously see nothing wrong with buying gearbox jacks at the lowest possible cost, you must remember that this is a device that directly impacts your safety at work.

And that is not even a slight exaggeration.

After all, you will be using this jack every single day to lift heavy components—we all know how much a gearbox weighs. Or an exhaust system.

Therefore, to put it shortly: Don’t just focus on the price. Focus on whether the jack is safe to operate.

How do you check this when buying online?

It is always worth reading…

User reviews for different gearbox jacks.

At REDATS, we always encourage our customers to share their feedback on our gearbox jacks, or any other equipment for that matter.

Anyway, let’s let them speak for themselves!

Below are a few reviews from the allegro.pl portal regarding REDATS gearbox jacks:

“Suits me well, works great, and I’m very satisfied.”

“So far, flawless. First use: supported an engine together with the gearbox for 24 hours and nothing leaked.”

“Very good. Highly recommend. Bought a second one because the first has been running for almost two years without any issues.”

(Reviews kept in their original style).

Which companies offer gearbox jacks?

Essentially, every major company that sells workshop equipment has gearbox jacks in its product range. They don’t just differ in color, as some cynical people might say. They differ primarily in build quality and the parts used.

We mention this completely consciously because we can back up the quality of all the equipment you find in our catalog. What sets REDATS jacks apart from competing brands is the fact that these jacks are custom-made to our specifications.

How to use a gearbox jack properly?

Now, this part is simple 😉 Let us quote the REDATS gearbox jack user manual in full here:

⚠️ Before attempting to use the gearbox jack, ensure that the vehicle is properly prepared.

What does this mean for you? Make sure the vehicle is properly set up. Raised. Secured.

⚠️ Before use, ensure that the weight and size of the gearbox do not exceed the lifting capacity of the jack.

There is very little chance that a gearbox in a passenger car will weigh more than a few hundred kilos, but… always make sure 🙂 You can read the maximum lifting capacity from the data plate on the device—at least, that’s how it is with the REDATS H-220!

⚠️ Ensure that the load is centered and stable on the jack saddle before attempting to lift, lower, or transport it.

Simply put—make sure it’s not rocking side to side!

⚠️ To lower, slowly turn the release valve knob counterclockwise to gently lower the saddle.

⚠️ The faster the valve knob is turned, the more sudden the descent of the cylinder will be.

Meaning—do it slowly!

⚠️ Ensure that the descent of the cylinder is slow and controlled to avoid the risk of a sudden drop, which can be dangerous.
