two-post lift

What to consider choosing a two-post lift?

18 April 2023 by Tomasz Szymański

Getting a two-post lift requires a lot of diligence. After all, it is a unit that you’re going to use on an everyday basis at work. What does it mean exactly?  What makes a two-post lift worth your attention?

This short comparison of two-post lifts is based on 3 models from the REDATS range. Here’s the short list:

  • L-200
  • L-200R
  • L-200F

We’ve chosen these models, so as to show the differences between various technical solutions applied in different units.

Hydraulic two post lift REDATS L-200

With 4 tons of capacity, you will be able to raise passenger cars or even lighter car-derived vans.

The most important facts

  • Capacity: 4 tons
  • Power source: 400V
  • Floor thickness: 30 cm
  • Raising height: 193 cm

Hydraulic two post lift REDATS L-200R

Same as above. The only difference lies in floor thickness.

The most important facts

  • Capacity: 4 tons
  • Power source: 400V
  • Floor thickness: 20 cm
  • Raising height: 193 cm

Hydraulic two post lift REDATS L-200F

Most important facts

  • Capacity: 4 tony
  • Power source: 230V
  • Floor thickness: 20 cm
  • Raising height: 193 cm

What floor for two-post lift

It all depends on the model. Overall rules are as follows;

  • B25 concrete
  • thickness min. 30 cm (exception – lifts with frame)

Are the 230V two post lifts a good choice?

You’ve been querying us whether one-phase lifts are a good choice. Will they work efficiently? Will they be durable enough?

It all depends on what power source you got at your garage. The good news is, you don’t need to change anything.

“One phase” is as efficient as “three phases”. Can’t believe it? Consider this short comparison:

L-200 400V L-200 230V
Power source 400V 230V
Raising time 55 seconds 55 seconds
Lowering time 25 seconds25 seconds

As you can see, it does not matter what type of lift you choose – be it 230V, be it 400V. Overall, the working tempo and efficiency are the same!

What two post lifts – mechanical or hydraulic?

This is another question that you often query us. Even though there used to be a widespread belief that mechanical lifts are a better and safer choice, this is no longer an issue.

First up – the price. New mechanical lifts might cost a few times more than hydraulic ones.

Many people using mechanical lifts consider them a more precise option. After all, you can set them in a really precise position, for instance to mount a gearbox in the car.

But…

Let’s be honest.

For mounting a gearbox, you would use a hoist, right? You won’t be setting it with a two-post lift!

Obviously, you won’t be able to precisely set the car at height, with milimeters, but do you really need it everyday?

Another issue. Maintenance. In hydraulic two post lifts, the whole structure is really simple. All the maintenance includes greasing steel ropes or guiding rails. And service check-up on a regular basis.

A mechanical lift requires more attention. If a screw or cap gets broken, you can be waiting for the part to come. And the lift stands still and won’t amke money.
